Who are your editors?
Our editors are Ph.D. level, language professionals from the U.K., Canada, and the U.S. They are all native English speakers from top universities and must complete demanding selection standards.
What is the NJE Editing Certificate?
NJE will provide a certificate confirming that your paper was edited by NJE. Assuming that any changes we proposed are incorporated into the manuscript, the certificate guarantees that the English quality of your manuscript is appropriate for peer review. If your paper does not earn a certificate after one round of editing, we will be happy to work with you to improve the language until the paper qualifies for a certificate.
Do you edit LaTeX documents?
NJE does support the direct editing of LaTeX files in all areas of study.
Please see the following to submit a manuscript for editing directly in LaTeX:
- Submit your document.
- Upload your LaTeX file in the document upload section of the process.
- Upload any dependent information (e.g., figures, .sty, .cls, .bib, .pdf etc.) required to compile your LaTeX file as reference files.
NOTE: Only English manuscripts are eligible for direct editing in LaTeX. Tracked changes are not available within the edited LaTeX files themselves. If possible, we will generate a compiled PDF of the file showing the changes that have been made to your document.
To view tracked changes within the same document, please convert your file to another format. To do this, save your file as a .doc, .docx, or .rtf file before submitting it for editing. For further reference, we also ask that you include a PDF of your manuscript.
What is the difference between formatting and editing?
Formatting is not language editing (correction of grammar, phrasing, and word choice errors). Instead, your formatting experts focuses on the target journal guidelines to ensure it is publication ready. The service includes layout; font; spacing between sections and lines of text; citations and references; formatting of headings and a check to ensure that all required sections are present; title page check; word count, image number, and reference number limits and noting overages; and ensuring appropriate placement of tables and figures.
How will you format images, such as photographs and micrographs?
In order to generate top-quality figures, images that are included within a figure should also be sent independently in the highest available resolution file. We are unable to make changes to brightness, contrast, or color balance, and we will not crop the image.
How can I review my formatted figures when they are returned.
Many journals require figures to be submitted as .eps files. Thus, in addition to any submission-ready files, we will also send .JPG versions of your new figures for you to review.
Can you evaluate the merit of my manuscript and provide recommendations accordingly?
We do not perform peer review of your manuscript as part of the Journal Recommendation service; however, if you provide a range of impact factors, we will do our best to provide recommendations that meet your publishing goals.

Do you guarantee that my paper will be accepted by one of the journals you recommend?
Our Journal Recommendation report is designed to provide useful information about journals that may be a good fit for your paper based on the content of your work. Acceptance by a journal will be determined entirely by the journal’s editorial staff, not NJE. The NJE Journal Recommendation service is journal-independent and will not communicate directly with journal Editors about your manuscript. We are here to support you throughout the publication process but can not guarantee journal acceptance.
